  • State To State

Last month we examined the history of MMA in Colorado, site for the inaugural UFC. This month we travel east — make that upper south — to North Carolina, which hosted the third and fifth installments of the UFC before the state banned the sport outright. A lot of martial artists think of themselves as warriors, as latter-day samurai or Shaolin monks who possess esoteric skills that turn them into elite fighters. That can make for some harmless fantasy-as long as you don’t get too carried away and start challenging people to duels with your katana. But if you want to find out what the real warriors are doing for their martial arts training, you need to know what goes down at Range 37 in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. But don’t ask too many questions, or they might have to kill you. Home to the U.S. Amry’s Special Forces, Fort Bragg is where the legendary Green Berets hand their hats or berets, as the case may be. While being ....

  • Tapout Magazine - Inside SOCP

The United States military employs some of the most sophisticated weaponry known to man, but behind every SCAR (Special Operations Forces (SOF) Combat Assault Rifle) is a Special Operations soldier who must use his split-second tactical mind and array of skills to stay out of harm’s way.02 Mixed martial arts and the military are certainly no stranger to one another with countless former/current military personnel competing and benefit events supporting, but two programs bridge that gap between a sport and the people who protect our freedoms every day. While the Modern Army Combatives Program (MACP) readies the everyday Army soldier, the Special Operations Combatives Program (SOCP) ....
